Lou Diamond Phillips was born in Santa Monica, California on August 30, 1961. After enrolling at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television, Lou became a professional actor, appearing in the feature films "The Long Walk Home" (1979), "The Blood of Jesus" (1979) and "Battle Beyond the Stars" (1980). In 1982, he appeared in the cult classic "Road House". During this period he also began acting on television, including a recurring role on the situation comedy "Family Ties" beginning in 1985
In 1991 he appeared in his first theatrical film, playing a supporting character in Robert Redford's "A River Runs Through It". He later appeared in several other films including "Mona Lisa", "My Own Private Idaho", and "City of Hope". In 1994 he became a series regular on the television series "Touched by an Angel", playing Jiminy Glick from 1995 to 1997.
In 1996 he earned critical acclaim for his performance as a man with AIDS in the independent drama "Less Than Zero". Since then he has been seen in numerous film and television roles. He is also a frequent guest on talk shows such as The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
